Embracing Technology in Care Home Settings
At Field House care home in Stourbridge, we firmly believe in the necessity of integrating advanced technology in care home environments. Our aim is to provide the most efficient, safe, and responsive level of care possible. Few care homes have committed as deeply to leveraging high-quality advanced technology as Field House. By embracing recent advancements, we have put in place a range of systems and services that place us – and, most importantly, our residents – at a distinct advantage in terms of communication, management, and responsiveness.
Nourish
Nourish – an advanced care management system – has been implemented at our care home in Stourbridge. This technology in care home environments allows every staff member to have continuous access to the system via a smartphone. Staff can plan, record, report, and coordinate care ‘on the go’ 24 hours a day, offering many benefits to our residents:
- Less time is spent on paperwork, meaning more time providing care to our residents.
- The teams can carry out internal audits more quickly, increasing efficiency.
- We can more easily tailor plans and actions to our residents’ individual needs and wishes, and deliver them much faster.
- Digital recording of all care tasks in real-time ensures that we carry out every task and activity required by each resident’s very individualised care plan, including activities and social events.
Nourish allows our staff to understand each resident’s preferences and needs much more comprehensively than traditional paper records ever could. This capacity enhances our ability to provide a more responsive and proactive care service. For example, if a resident requests a snack, a carer can send a message directly to the kitchen via the Nourish system. Updates about food preparation and delivery are then communicated directly to the carer, ensuring prompt and efficient service. Such real-time communication, enabled by care home technology, substantially improves the quality of care we provide.
Nourish is also being used by management at all levels, meaning the registered manager and directors are notified immediately should tasks not have been completed on time. This allows for a much-improved quality of care and significant savings in management time.
MED e-care
Field House is set to implement MED e-care, a state-of-the-art system aimed at streamlining the management and monitoring of medication orders and administration. This proven software, designed to revolutionise technology in care home environments, simplifies medication orders and significantly reduces the potential for human error.
The support of our dispensing pharmacy enhances the capabilities of the MED e-care system. It ensures the process of submitting our four-weekly orders and one-off prescriptions online is as straightforward and efficient as possible.
Accuracy and safety in medication use and administration are paramount. MED e-care offers a solution by providing precise, detailed information for GPs, nurses, pharmacies, and our dedicated care staff. It even has the functionality to individually record each medication prescribed, alerting us if a medication is administered outside of its recommended timeframe or missed altogether.
At Field House, we prioritise the health and well-being of our residents and consider it our duty to invest in advanced software like MED e-care. Our commitment guarantees that we can provide the safest, highest standard of care possible to all our residents.
Sensors
We use a variety of non-invasive sensors in our care home in Stourbridge to enhance our residents’ safety. The use of this care tech, such as pressure mats by beds, under chairs, or in doorways, depends on the needs of the resident and is only used with their full consent or their Power of Attorney. These sensors help our staff assist residents who may require help or have limited mobility, providing a crucial safety measure.
Free Wi-Fi
In our commitment to the latest technology in care home environments, we now offer free, high-quality Wi-Fi throughout our homes, including communal areas and residents’ bedrooms. This facilitates internet access and allows residents to make and receive video and voice calls to friends and family whenever they want to – meaning our residents’ families can always keep in touch.
